Betsy Glover: Life Changing Care

Headshot of SLP Betsy Glover

Just as almost every student has that one teacher or clinician who made a difference, educators and clinicians also remember and share stories about those students who have touched them in some way. One of the best things about working at PresenceLearning is being able to hear from hundreds of SLPs, OTs, and mental health professionals from around the country tell these special stories. Recently, SLP Betsy Glover told us about a former student, and it was one of those moments that reminded us all over again why we are so passionate about what we do at PresenceLearning, whether as a clinician, an engineer, a business person, or someone supporting schools and clinicians in the field. Betsy’s story is too good not to share, so we sat down with her to learn more.

Betsy, we are so happy to have you on the team, and thank you for all that you do!

Q: How long have you been working with PresenceLearning?

A: I have been working with PL for about three years.

Q: You recently heard from a former student. What did she tell you, and how did it make you feel?

A: One morning while getting ready I received a random text message from a high school fluency student I saw over a year ago that read, “Good morning Mrs. Glover. I know we haven’t spoken in forever and I apologize for that. But I just want you to know that I haven’t forgotten about you and what you’ve done for me with my speech. I’m currently writing a college essay and I’m writing about how you essentially changed my life. And I just wanted to say thank you for all that you’ve done for me!” This really melted my heart and reminded me that what I do really does make a difference in the lives of the students I work with.

Q: What do you think is the key / are the keys to being a successful telepractitioner?

A: I think that just like any mode of delivery for therapy, establishing a good rapport with your students, their families, and your school staff colleagues is crucial to being successful. You can’t let being hundreds of miles apart deter you from connecting with the people you work with.

Q: Why did you decide to try telepractice with PresenceLearning?

A: Before coming to PL, I had worked for two other companies who provided teletherapy; however, I found myself frustrated with a lack of organization and very little support. After doing some research I found PL which was still growing but had already made significant efforts to provide a platform built for therapists as well as provide a support structure to streamline our-day-to-day responsibilities. I was impressed by their efforts and decided to join. I have not regretted that decision once since I joined!

Q: What do you love the most about your career?

A: My family is my passion, but with four young children it is sometimes difficult to find a job that will allow you to have the best of both worlds. My career with PL has flourished because I am able to maintain the perfect balance to feel satisfied with my professional growth along with meeting my family’s needs.

Q: What has surprised you the most about working online?

A: Like many clinicians who try teletherapy for the first time, I was unsure how I would transfer my on-the-ground therapy techniques into a virtual setting. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to adapt and how effective my virtual therapy was.

Q: How has the PresenceLearning community benefited you as an SLP?

A: PL’s community is amazing! After working with other companies, I can say hands down that my support and connection with other clinicians is out of this world! Even though I spend countless hours working from home alone, I never feel alone. And I have had the privilege to learn from people from all over the country (the world, really!) who have new and different experiences to share. I cannot imagine working in telepractice without the support that I’ve received from PL’s community.

Q: What do you like best about the PresenceLearning therapy solution?

A: PL’s platform was most definitely built with therapists in mind and it is very hard to decide what I like the best! I love our in-session documentation and customizable therapy activity queues that allow me to plan at my convenience and document in real time. It is so efficient and effective!

Q: What would you tell other clinicians who are thinking about trying telepractice with PresenceLearning?

A: Try it and you’ll love it!
