Clinician Spotlight: Jessica K.

Jessica K., M.A., CCC-SLP, joined the PresenceLearning team in 2011.

How has the PL online platform enabled you to help your students and the schools you serve in new ways?

Students are much more motivated to come to therapy because they see it as a new, fun, and exciting way to learn. Most of the time, my students feel like they are just playing games, when in fact they have been focusing on their speech/language goals the whole time!

Can you tell us a little about how you collaborate with teachers and other school staff members?

I am always available via phone, text, email, etc. I like to check-in with my PSP (primary support person) at the school daily and also email the teachers whenever there are concerns or questions with the student. We are all on the same team when it comes to the students.

How do you build trust and rapport with parents?

I like to send home a “get to know me” sheet about myself that goes with all of my students. This way parents can have my phone number and email address so that they are always able to reach out to me with questions or comments regarding their son/daughter. I also like to send homework home with the student with instructions to the parents. I like to be just as available (if not more) than an actual onsite therapist.

What advice would you give districts considering online therapy?

You will never regret considering online therapy. Your students will make so much progress and have a blast while doing so!
